KINZUA DAM

Authorized by the Flood Control Ats of 1936, 1938, and 1941, actual construction was begun by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1960 and completed in 1965. The main purpose of the dam is flood control on the Allegheny and Ohio rivers. This dam controls drainage on a watershed of 2180 square miles or an area twice the size of the state of Rhode Island. Side benefits derived from the dam include drought control, hydroelectric power production and recreation.

CAMP CORNPLANTER

This site is best known as the former location of Camp Cornplanter, the nation's first residence camp for people with learning disabilities. It was operated from 1959-1984, and served individuals from many east coast states and Canada. Camp Cornplanter consisted of 8 residence lodges, a large dining hall, swimming pool and several special service buildings.

The site was originally Dunkle Corners Civilian Conservation Corps Camp No. ANF-11, which operated in 1935-1936, and was a YMCA Camp from 1939-1958.
